Another French-Made Virile Fragrance from Burberry
Let me begin by saying that I'm a Burberry Fan. Burberry London cologne is my "go to" fragrance. They describe it as "oriental," but I think that's the exotic floral top notes. It's not overpowering, and yet has a distinct fragrance -- high, middle and low notes. It's masculine, and all there, without the nose-knockout of some colognes. In fact, my wife won't let me wear anything else without protest!So I welcomed the opportunity to test this Weekend "eau de toilette" -- meaning, a fragrance that is not as strong as cologne. In fact, the literal translation from the French is awful: toilet water. Yeeech! Of course, that's not what it means. It's just an old fashion way to say "men's light perfume." And it is French-made, like many great perfumes and colognes.As you'd expect, "Weekend" it is a casual, lighter fragrance. There are top citrussy notes, quite sweet, and the man of the family is not a huge fan of many lemon-heavy fragrances. However, after only a few minutes, the fresh lemon, grapefruit and sweet tangerine fade somewhat into the appealing mid-and lower-notes. We can't do better than quote Burberry's own description: "heart notes of oak moss, ivy leaves and sandalwood. A radiant warmth of honey, amber and musk composes the base notes in this elegant, luminous scent." Luscious!What we both admire about Burberry (the man who wears it and the woman who must inhale it) is that the perfumiers manage to create floral scents that are always masculine and virile at the same time. A note to my younger friends just switching from drug store scents to real cologne: don't drench yourself in it. Less is more! Use something else for deodorant -- hopefully something that does not compete (even unscented), and certainly for your health, something that does not have pore-clogging aluminum in it. Then, with a well made fine mist sprayer like this, aim one full spray and one only on the chest/base of throat. That's it!One more thing: Burberry also manages the important job of presentation -- the bottle, top and packaging are as attractive and casually elegant as the fragrance itself.Recommended!
