How to upcycle your perfume bottle

Do you want to establish or keep up a more environmentally friendly beauty routine? Or perhaps you find it difficult to let go of your favorite, visually beautiful perfume bottle after you’ve sprayed the last drop? Have you considered reusing your old perfume bottle instead of tossing it away if one of these situations rings a bell?

Of course, you could recycle it or even refill it (check out the amazing selection of refillable perfumes we have), but you could give your lovely old perfume bottle a new lease of life by upcycling it! This not only allows you to keep up a more environmentally friendly beauty regimen, but it also allows you to re-use the bottle.

Here, we share our favourite ways to transform an old perfume bottle into a decorative piece you can proudly display in your home.

Display Flowers

How about recycling perfume bottles? Make it into a vase to showcase lovely flowers that will instantly brighten the atmosphere of the space. Despite being large enough to carry many of your favorite stemmed flowers, a perfume bottle is delicate enough to exhibit on smaller surfaces.

How to make a perfume bottle flower vase:

  1. Soak your perfume bottle overnight to remove any unwanted labels
  2. Gently ease off the perfume cap
  3. Fill with water and your favourite florals

Make a Diffuser

They make excellent DIY room diffusers because of the perfume bottle’s attractive shape. You’ll need an empty perfume bottle, pliers, bamboo skewers, essential oils of your choice, and a carrier oil that is unscented or only mildly scented (such as baby oil or almond oil).

How to make a perfume bottle diffuser:

  • Soak your old perfume bottle in warm water to erase any labels before using it.
  • With pliers, carefully pry off the perfume bottle top.
  • Pour it into your empty perfume bottle after combining 30% essential oil and 70% carrier oil. You can play about with the quantities to acquire the aroma you want.
  • Your bamboo skewers should be placed in the oil, allowed to absorb some of the oil, and then turned around.

TOP TIP: Rotate your bamboo skewers once a week to enjoy the aroma for longer.

Make a Candle Holder

Why not utilize your perfume bottle as a candlestick holder if you enjoy creating an ambiance in your home? What you must do is as follows:

How to make a perfume bottle candle holder:

  • Place a candle inside the perfume bottle’s opening after carefully prying off the cap.
  • Melt a small portion at the bottom that will fit into the bottle’s neck to keep the candle from falling out.
  • After allowing to set, you’re ready to light!

REPURPOSE INTO MINI TERRARIUM

Make your old perfume bottle into a miniature living terrarium to extend its usefulness. Unsure of how? What you need to know is as follows:

How to make a perfume bottle terrarium:

  • Remove the bottle’s cap with caution.
  • Fill the hole at the top with a little sand.
  • After that, sprinkle some dirt on top and add a thin coating of activated charcoal to keep it smelling pleasant and fresh.
  • Shake the bottle lightly to flatten by turning it on its side.
  • To complete, use tweezers to position some moss and then gently press it into place.

Light up the room

You can’t go wrong with any kind of twinkly fairy light addition if you want to make your room appear utterly fantastic. It simply takes three easy steps to turn your empty perfume bottle into a lovely ornament.

How to light up a room with your perfume bottle:

  1. Start by cleaning the bottle in warm soapy water and drying it completely
  2. Carefully remove the cap of the bottle
  3. Gently push a set of mini battery-powered string lights into the opening of your clean, empty perfume bottle.

And voila! You’ve created a cosy, warm atmosphere in minutes.

USE AS A DECORATIVE ELEMENT

This one is for all you interior decorators. What better use for antique perfume bottles than to be turned into decorative items or works of art. There are several perfume bottles worth displaying on bookshelves or side tables, whether it’s Valentino‘s Donna Born in Roma scent with recognizable glass studs or YSL‘s Libre design that comes wrapped with the brand’s insignia. Try it yourself if you’re feeling motivated to remodel!

Get Festive with a Christmas ornament

What better way to commemorate everyone’s favorite season (and recycle your perfume bottle at the same time) than by creating your own DIY Christmas decorations?

An effective and distinctive ornament can be created by doing something as simple as wrapping a ribbon around the top of an old perfume bottle and hanging it from your tree.

Add a final coat of glittery spray paint for a touch of glimmer.

REVITALISE WITH A FACE MIST

Everyone enjoys a good face mist because it instantly makes your skin hydrated and radiant. So instead of throwing away an empty perfume bottle, why not refill it with a cooling homemade face mist?

How to use an empty perfume bottle for face mist:

  • Rinse your old perfume bottle in hot, soapy water
  • Fill a quarter of the way up with water
  • Top up with several drops of the essential oil of your choice.

FRESHEN UP YOUR WARDROBE

Finally, you may reuse an almost empty perfume bottle to create a wardrobe refresher that will keep your garments dazzlingly fresh. Use your favorite smell to softly freshen clothing that has been sitting in your closet for a while or that you just want to wear again by filling up your empty perfume bottle with water.

As an alternative, you might leave a nearly empty perfume bottle open in your closet and let the scent organically permeate your clothing.

It’s ideal for days when you’ve been too busy to put any laundry in!
