The Body Shop White Musk Eau De Toilette Review

Hello, everyone at IMBB! I’m here to once again post about perfume. And this will be about one that’s been around for years, is pretty accessible, and affordable too—White Musk Eau De Toilette by The Body Shop.

A friend used to consider this her signature scent, and while it smelled nice on her, I didn’t want to try it myself because I stayed away from anything with musk in its name or description. I automatically thought that musk = heavy. But not so with The Body Shop White Musk, as I’ve found out now, many years later after first smelling it on my friend.

Since getting into the world of scents, I’ve become more open to trying things, and have been surprised to actually enjoy fragrances my old self wouldn’t even have tried in the first place. And I’ve found out that while White Musk isn’t as light as baby cologne, it certainly isn’t heavy or cloying, in fact, it smells clean and pretty.

Product description from The Body Shop:

Pure sensuality. Our best-selling fragrance is so soft, velvety and alluring, that you’ll want to wear it every day (and night).
Its top notes are velvety musk, floral lily, sensual ylang ylang, with hints of fresh galbanum and basil. Its middle notes are made up of velvety musk, oriental jasmine, floral lily, and rose. The base notes are comprised of velvety musk, oriental jasmine, floral lily, iris, rose, sweet vanilla, fresh amber, patchouli, oakmoss, vetiver, and fruity peach.

It’s easy to see that White Musk is also a floral fragrance, with about five different flowers listed in its notes, and when I first spray it, a pleasantly light floral scent greets my nose. There’s a hint of alcohol at the very beginning, but it fades very quickly.

You’ll notice that “velvety musk” is present in all three stages of the perfume, and this is true. I can already smell it in the background in the initial spray, and it becomes more prominent as a minute goes by. I wouldn’t coin it as velvety though, but more like a simple, soapy musk. If I just stepped out of the shower and put my nose very close to my freshly washed skin, that, to me, is what its musky component smells like.

Put that with the florals and other notes and what you get is a clean, girly, simple scent. I can easily see why it’s The Body Shop’s best-selling fragrance— it’s soft, comfortably sexy, and suitable to wear daily the office, at school, even in an elevator… no need to douse yourself with it of course, just a few sprays will do.

It’s an Eau de Toilette and lasts about four hours on me, but I can easily reapply because it’s often in my bag due to its convenient size. The Body Shop’s White Musk Eau De Toilette is available in 30ml (shown in the photos) and 60ml sizes. The packaging is simple and practical—a compact glass spray bottle with a metal cap, labelled with just the name of the shop and perfume.

The White Musk fragrance is also available in lotion form, shower gel, and body mist, so if you’d like its scent to really last, you can layer everything together. It also has a men’s perfume counterpart, which I haven’t smelled yet. Overall, quite nice for the price and good to always have in my purse.
