First off, Perfume Emporium offers an excellent selection of perfumes and fragrances. If you know a particular designer fragrance, you can easily find it with their convenient search facility. On the other hand, if you’d like to see what’s new in their supply, or would like to check out the top customer rated fragrances, Perfume Emporium allows you to easily browse through those selections.
Perfume Emporium is also the only retailer that offers an incentive program in the way of Beauty Bucks. With these, repeat customers are rewarded with lower prices off the already discounted fragrances. We also really liked their Fragrance of the Month Club that allows you to try new scents each month for only $8.00. They are the only retailer we found that provides this unique and fun option.
If you’re buying a gift for someone and don’t know exactly what to buy, Perfume Emporium offers a Gift Finder facility. Simply answer a few questions, and they will suggest a fragrance to you. They also have a Gift Reminder option that will remind you in the future of important gift-giving dates.
While they have an extensive collection of perfumes and colognes, Perfume Emporium offers discounts on even more products. They offer a wide range of Skincare, Makeup, and Haircare products as well. Within these categories, you can search alphabetically by brand, or by price range to find the product you’re looking for.
Savings are significant across the board on all the products they offer. Perfume Emporium ships both nationally and internationally. If you’re not happy with your order, Perfume Emporium allows you to return it within 60 days of purchase for a full refund. This is much more generous than other perfume stores in our review. Shipping fees vary depending on the number of products ordered and start at $5.90.
Overall, Perfume Emporium impressed us with the large selection of discounted 100% authentic fragrances, and convenient search options. Further, they go beyond just a perfume store by offering a rewards program, monthly perfume club, gift finders, and product request. For all these reasons, Perfume Emporium earns our highest rating for Perfume Stores.
Perfumania
If you’ve ever been to a mall in America, chances are good that you’re already familiar with Perfumania. In addition to their more than 300 retail locations throughout the country and Puerto Rico, Perfumania‘s website brings all of today’s hottest fragrances to you with a click of the mouse.
Finding what you’re looking for is easy. If you know what you want, type it directly into the search box. Otherwise, you can browse by brand name, women’s/men’s fragrances, best sellers, and so forth. Further down the page, you’ll find links to Perfumania‘s selection of haircare products and cosmetics, and in that same area you can click to see celebrity fragrances, selections under $100, and items under $50.
We were definitely impressed by Perfumania‘s pricing. Out of all of retailers in our review, they consistently had the lowest prices. For instance, when we searched for the classic Polo by Ralph Lauren eau de toilette, their price of $57.59 was well below the list price of $84 and was also the lowest we found among their competitors.
Perfumania is also one of only three retailers we reviewed that has a loyalty program. With Perfumania Perks, you’ll earn a certain number of points for every dollar you spend online or in-store, depending on how much you spend over the course of 12 months. Those points can be redeemed for discounts on future purchases, and Perks members also receive other bonuses, such as discounts, free Travalo refills, free samples, and free ground shipping, depending on which rewards tier you qualify for.
Shipping costs are reasonable at Perfumania. Orders of $55 and up receive free shipping, and all others ship for a flat rate starting at $5.95 to US addresses (no P.O. boxes or APO/FPO addresses allowed) and $19.98 to residents of Canada.
Perfumania‘s return policy, while not the most generous among retailers in our review, is appropriate: unopened, unused merchandise can be returned within 30 days to a retail location or via mail to their Customer Care Department in New York, for a full refund.
Given their A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, lowest prices, and broad selection, Perfumania receives high marks. We’re confident that your shopping experience at Perfumania will be a positive one.
Fragrance X
Fragrance X stocks over 8,500 discount fragrances, many of which are discontinued in stores and are difficult to find. Their perfumes are guaranteed to be 100% original designer fragrances, and shipping is free on orders over $35.00 or otherwise $5.95 for 2-5 day delivery.
Fragrance X offers a lengthy list of perfumes and colognes. You can easily scroll through their alphabetical listing of perfumes if you’re looking for a particular brand. On the other hand, Fragrance X also provides a variety of perfume groupings to browse through. These include Top Sellers, Testers, Celebrity Scents, Hard to Find items Gift Sets, and more. If you’re not exactly sure which brand of perfume you want to buy, these options can be quite helpful in determining your selection. Unfortunately, they do not provide a search option by price, which we think would be very helpful.
The return policy offered by Arrange X is reasonable, with a 30 day refund period for any unopened product. In addition to perfume, Fragrance X provides a number of discounted Skincare and Makeup items that you can purchase, although these are not eligible for return.
Overall, we were impressed with the quality of scents offered by Arrange X, as well as some of the search options they provide. They earn high marks for perfume stores.
Fragrance
Fragrance is a publicly traded company that was founded in 1997 and has since built a reputable name for themselves. They only sell 100% genuine products. There are absolutely no knock-offs or imitations contained on their website.
Fragrance offers a choice of either 30% off your purchase, or free shipping to anywhere in the U.S. This is a unique option that we really like. It gives you the option to choose the discount that best fits your purchasing needs.
While the navigation found on Fragrance is a little cumbersome, they still provide a range of search options to help narrow down your perfume selection. For example, you can search by gender, category (for example, best sellers or new arrivals), brand name, product type, and more.
Unfortunately, Fragrance doesn’t provide an option to search by price. This may prove a little frustrating if you’re looking to stay within a particular price range when shopping. Instead, you’ll need to search each product area to meet your needs.
Overall, Fragrance is a straightforward provider of fragrances, skin care items and more. With average prices and a middle of the road website design, Fragrance gets the job done simply and without annoying gimmicks.
The Perfume Spot
Upon first visiting the site, The Perfume Spot looks like an outdated web store design. Navigation to find what you’re looking for is a bit clumsy, and they don’t offer nearly the range of search options provided by the other sites in our review.
On the plus side, The Perfume Spot does offer authentic, brand-name perfumes and colognes. They also provide a selection of Bath & Body products and Hair Care items as well. Many of these products are indeed offered at discounts from what you could find at traditional retail stores. They have served over 2 million customers, and have earned awards for outstanding customer service. They also offer a 30-day money back guarantee for any unused items that you receive.
However, The Perfume Spot comes up short when compared with other online discount perfume stores in some important areas. First, they provide only a minimum of search facilities to help you find your desired perfume. While they offer an alphabetical list of the fragrances they sell, missing are some of the convenient options we’ve seen elsewhere, such as search by price, by top sellers, and by gift sets.
Also, while The Perfume Spot offers free shipping, we were disappointed to discover that it only takes effect on purchases of $79 or more.
While The Perfume Spot offers quality products at discounted prices, their lack of search options and high free shipping requirement drops them in our ratings.
Perfume
Perfume has been in business since 1995 selling authentic perfumes online at a discount. Their site lists more than 10,000 scents and just over 1,000 well-known and lesser-known brand name perfumes. If you are uncertain of which type of perfumes or colognes are right for you, Perfume has written several guides and articles on topics including the history of perfumes and guides to choosing the right perfumes or colognes.
Prices range from $5 for inexpensive men’s cologne brands such as Bod up to $527 for elite women’s perfume brands such as Jardin Blanc. With each purchase, Perfume guarantees that products are 100% original brand names with no imitations. If for any reason you are not satisfied with your order you may return it for a full refund. Shipping offerings range from free Standard Ground in the U.S. for orders over $35 to Next Day Air for $13.95 plus $5 per item. They do also ship worldwide for upwards of $14.95 plus $0.99 per item, or more for premium shipping.
We did find, however, that Perfume has a less-than-satisfactory rating in online reviews. Their Better Business Bureau grade is a B-, with negative reviews describing problems with the ordering, shipping, and returns process not being as advertised on the Perfume website.
Other reviews online emphatically insisted that Perfume’s products were not authentic perfumes and colognes as advertised. Many reviewers noted things like bottles arriving labeled as “natural spray” and that the fragrance only lasted 30 minutes.
Because of the issues with authenticity and longevity of the fragrance once applied, plus a definite pattern of ordering, shipping, and returns problems, we recommend that you choose a higher-rated perfume and cologne seller in our reviews.
Hott Perfume
Hott Perfume lists all of today’s preferred brands, from Alfred Sung to Yves Saint Laurent, and at prices that are impressive. For example, when we looked up a basic Polo by Ralph Lauren eau de toilette, their 4-oz. bottle was listed at $57.99, the second-lowest price we found among the retailers we reviewed.
Unfortunately, those low prices may not get you a true bargain. While there are a handful of customers who are satisfied with their purchase, the vast majority have had issues with product quality, often receiving a fragrance that doesn’t smell like the original. Even when comparing them side-by-side, there are obvious differences in the labeling and packaging to indicate that the item bought from Hott Perfume is a knockoff.
Their B- rating with the Better Business Bureau is further evidence that customers aren’t very happy with their experience with Hott Perfume. Many of the complaints there describe receiving bottles that were almost empty because they had leaked all over the packaging, and then getting no answer from the customer service email at Hott Perfume.
In fact, when we looked at their “about us” link on the site, we were directed to a page that had five coupons and a basic email address – not a toll-free number, an address, or anything else about the business itself.
There is also no listed return policy or shipping costs.
Because of their lack of information and the overwhelming number of unhappy customers, Hott Perfume receives low marks. We strongly suggest that perfume shoppers check out the other retailers in our review.
